This one’s for Max….

December 31, 2007 at 5:51 am (Foodies)

Apologies to all my loyal fans, I seemed to have hit a food loving lull. Rest assured, I think I’m back, at least until I start to hate food again, maybe in another 6 months. Until then, I’m going to conveniently skip all that’s happened since my last post and talk about what I made today.
For Christmas I got an ice cream attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer. After a couple nights in the freezer, I was ready to make up a batch. My hubby wanted chocolate, but I decided that recipe had too many ingredients, so I choose the caramel pecan instead. After some confusion about putting the mixer together, I managed to get the mix and and give it a whirl. After the suggested amount of time, I was sad to see my mix was still fairly runny. I threw it in the freezer and after an hour the edges had frozen enough to make it edible. It was quite good! Next time I’ll take a picture with the new camera I got and share it all with you. Nate and I decided with a few substitutions we could make peanut butter cup ice cream, we might try that next. Other options would be fruit sorbets, frozen yogurt and sherbet.
Other interesting culinary things I got for Christmas… I got some appetizer spoons. They’re like tablespoons with a bent handle so they sit upright. I got them with a pretty glass platter, just like in this photo. Now I need to find a recipe that makes sense to be used with them. I think in the photo there are smoked salmon flowers or something. I was thinking it had to be kinda a messy appetizer that you’d want to use a spoon, but I think you can put just about anything in them. They look very classy on the pretty plate too. For instance, there’s a recipe for a bloody mary shrimp that has a sauce that goes on it, thus the use of a spoon for a serving spoon. The sauce has vodka, ketchup and hot sauce along with some other things. Maybe I could put something fancy in it like cucumber rounds topped with creme fresh and caviar, not that I’ve ever purchased caviar, but it sounds fancy. I’ll have to get better and have a dinner party. Okay, well that’s enough for now, more to come later.

Since Brandy hates food right now….

November 28, 2007 at 12:35 am (Foodies)

Yep, You all read that correctly…Brandy HATES food right now. So you get me and my reviews. The only place I’ve been to recently that is worth mentioning is FAMOUS DAVE’S!! You have no idea how much I love this place and how excited I was to see it along the freeway in Palmdale.
I went to it with Jose and his cousin Carlos. Jose has only had ribs in a few places but loves them, and Carlos has never had them, so I knew we were in for a treat.
We made it easy and ordered their meal for 4. It comes on a trash can lid. How exciting is that?? It comes with: 2 racks of ribs, brisket, a whole chicken, beans, coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob, french fries, and their famous cornbread muffins.
The food was really really good. The guys loved the ribs and the chicken seemed to blow their minds. The brisket was good, but nothing exciting. I’m not really quite sure what good brisket is suppose to taste like though, so my opinion shouldn’t count. Overall it was the perfect meal. Our waitress was a tad bit on the crazy side, so I give the meal a 9.
Hopefully Brandy will be up and liking food again soon. A description of a good home cooked meal would hit the spot right now.

Happy Day After Thanksgiving

November 23, 2007 at 11:15 pm (Foodies)

Had I gone to my parents for dinner the meal would have consisted of:
Mashed potatoes (Shari’s secret recipe)
Stuffing (the recipe that I can’t seem to make for the life of me)
Turkey
Homemade Cranberry Sauce (the canned version is not allowed in my house Brandy)
Pumpkin and Pecan Pie (from Village Inn of course).
It is a meal that I miss greatly BUT I heard they didn’t have mashed potatoes this year. That would not have happened if I was there!!
Instead, Jose and I headed to the Queen Mary for Dinner. It was definitely quite the experience. The picture above is a small portion of what the buffet looks like. The dinner was good, but not great. I guess I would have been more impressed on any other day, but they just didn’t seem how to cater to the Thanksgiving crowd. They only had one small table designated towards Mashed potatoes and Stuffing and Turkey. Therefore, because everyone wanted to eat those items, the line took about an hour to get through. The rest of the food was glorious, don’t get me wrong, but everyone had their heart set on Turkey Day food.
So my dinner actually consisted of a ton of seafood, roast beef, a very small amount of potatoes and various other items. The highlight was definitely the dessert line where you could get a personalized crepe. I had strawberries and chocolate…TASTY!!
After dinner we went and explored the boat. It was actually pretty neat. I would definitely go back and hit the exhibits (which we skipped) and maybe go to one of the other restaurants on the boat. I give dinner a 7 for thanksgiving. If it was any other day I probably would give it an 8 or 9. The buffet really was pretty cool, just not for thanksgiving.
I hope everyone else had a great day!

OHHHHH….The abundance of good meals in the last few days….

November 21, 2007 at 12:46 am (Foodies)

Ha. I wish. My dinners have consisted of Bread, Bananas, Applesauce, and today I lived dangerously and had some soup. Gatorade has become my new best friend. I wish I had something more exciting to report, such as the menu I’m coming up with for Thanksgiving. But let’s face it folks, even if I could actually cook something, I’m only going to be eating applesauce anyway.
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Eat lots of turkey for me!
